HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 cc1643-4W
Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware of the difficulties due to shortage of man-power in the agricultural industry; and why he has not asked for the Essential Work Order to be applied to this industry?

Mr. T. Williams

Agricultural workers are already prevented from obtaining employment outside the industry through the operation of the Undertakings (Restriction on Engagement) Order, and I do not think that the labour supply position in agriculture would be affected by bringing the industry under the Essential Work Order.
