HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 c1639W
Mr. Hutchinson

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food why it has been considered necessary to insert in the Food Control Committees (Constitution) Order, 1942, provisions requiring every local authority to submit for the approval of the Minister of Food the names of persons nominated for appointment to the local food control committees?

Mr. Mabane

The requirement that local authorities should submit for approval the names of persons for appointment to local food control committees was incorporated in the Food Control Committees (Constitution) Order, 1942, because irregular appointments had been made under the original Order. The object of the new procedure is to ensure, before appointment, that all nominees are eligible. In the past appointments have been made which did not comply with the provisions of the Order, and the discovery of this after the persons concerned had actually attended meetings of the Committee has given rise to difficulties which may now be avoided.
