HC Deb 07 October 1942 vol 383 c1236W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that in numerous instances, examples of which have been furnished to him, the attendance of teachers at the recent opening of schools in the summer holiday considerably exceeded the attendance of pupils; and whether, in order to secure approximate uniformity of effort, he will give some ruling to local authorities as to what proportion of pupils willing to attend school in the forthcoming autumn holidays will, in the opinion of the Board, warrant the opening?

Mr. Butler

I am aware that in the case of some schools the number of children who attended was insufficient to warrant the opening of the schools during the holidays. As regards the second part of the Question I prefer to adhere to the course suggested in my answer of 9th September.
