HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 c1084W
Mr. Woodburn

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to discourage or prohibit the requirement of public schools of specially made clothing and equipment as being waste on the one hand and a handicap to their wider use on the other?

Mr. Dalton

At my request the Board of Education have sent out circulars to all schools reminding them of the un-desirability in present circumstances of insistence on uniforms or uniformity of dress. My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Education and I are satisfied that the great majority of schools appreciate the need for the strictest economy in clothing material.
