HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 c1097W
Mr. Naylor

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he will take steps to secure an amendment of the Pensions Regulations having for its object the award of a pension to the widow or dependant of a soldier who meets his death, by accident or otherwise, while on leave, irrespective of the cause, place and time of death, in view of the fact that such an extension of benefit would not add considerably to the expenditure on service pensions while removing a hardship in cases in which the cause of death, although not directly arising out of service activity at the time, is nevertheless due to the soldier's attachment to the Army?

Sir W. Womersley

I regret that I am unable to accept the suggestion of the hon. Member which would represent a material modification of the whole principle underlying the award of a war pension.
