HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 cc1096-7W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Secretary of State for Air, whether members of the reserve of Royal Air Force officers are eligible for the air efficiency award?

Sir A. Sinclair

The air efficiency award is intended for civilians who undertook voluntary service in peace-time in non-regular Forces such as the Auxiliary Air Force and the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. The Reserve of Air Force Officers is composed mainly of ex-regular officers and only those members who joined from civil life and were transferred to the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve on its formation are eligible for the new award.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether the recently announced air efficiency award will be conferred upon members of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force on the same conditions that it is granted to Royal Air Force personnel, in which case can the warrant creating the award be amended accordingly?

Sir A. Sinclair

As the basic qualifying period of service for the air efficiency award is 10 years, the question of conferring it upon members of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force does not arise at the present time.
