HC Deb 01 October 1942 vol 383 c955W
Mr. Lindsay

asked the President of the Board of Education (1) what are the precise relations between his Department and the Girls' Training Corps; what subsidy is paid; and what instructions have been sent to local education authorities;

(2) what action he is taking to safeguard the existence of the organisation known as the Women's Junior Air Corps?

Mr. Butler

The National Association of Girls' Training Corps is a voluntary organisation which was formed at my suggestion last January to satisfy the demand which existed, by promoting the formation of pre-Service training units for girls. The association is assisted, as are other national voluntary organisations, with grants made under the Board's Social and Physical Training Grant Regulations. It is now recognised by the service Departments and by the Board as the body responsible for the central supervision of girls pre-Service training organisations. I am sending my hon. Friend copies of Circulars 1585 and 1603 which have been sent to local education authorities. He will see that the continuance of existing units of the W.J.A.C. is fully safeguarded.
