HC Deb 26 November 1942 vol 385 cc893-4W
Mrs. Tate

asked the Minister of Health how many wartime nurseries have been, or are being, opened in the county of Somerset; what has been the cost of building and equipping these nurseries; the number of staff employed, and to be employed, in them; and the number of children at present in daily attendance?

Mr. E. Brown

Sixteen wartime nurseries have been opened in the county of Somerset, and two more are in preparation. It is not yet possible to give exact figures for the total capital cost, but for those so far opened the cost of site preparation, erection of huts, adaptation of existing premises and laying-on of services has been roughly £10,000. The total staff in the nurseries opened is about 75, and the present average attendance of children is about 340. Equipment is provided centrally and costs about £10 a place.
