HC Deb 26 November 1942 vol 385 c887W
Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for War whether arrangements have been made to secure that the rates of pay for civilian jobs shall also be paid to Service men working with civilians on the same job; whether this principle applies to musicians: and whether this principle will be applied in film production when exceptional circumstances make necessary the employment on the same job of both civilians and soldiers?

Mr. A. Henderson

The Answer to the first and third parts of the Question is "No, Sir." Soldiers must receive their emoluments under the Army pay code. Under a long-standing arrangement Army bands are allowed to accept a very limited number of outside engagements at fees approximating to civilian rates, otherwise musicians in the Army are treated in the same way as other soldiers.
