HC Deb 25 November 1942 vol 385 cc746-7W
Mr. Parker

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether a locomotive pool, analogous to the wagon pool, has yet been formed to meet the varying needs of different sections of the main line railways?

Mr. Noel-Baker

Locomotives cannot be used in a common pool, as wagons can. Arrangements have, however, been made both for the joint working of locomotives and for the transfer of locomotives from one railway company to another, when this is required. Under these arrangements large numbers of locomotives have been transferred since 1939 and considerable economies in motive power have been obtained.
