HC Deb 25 November 1942 vol 385 c737W
Mr. Woodburn

asked the Secretary of State for Air what is the normal working week for maintenance staffs on air stations; and whether the recommendations of health authorities and the Minister of Labour regarding the optimum productive hours have been brought to the attention of commanding officers of industrial units?

Sir A. Sinclair

I presume that the hon. Member has in mind industrial personnel employed at units of the R.A.F. Maintenance Command. The normal working week of these employees is 48 hours. The actual number of hours worked under war conditions varies with operational requirements, but in general, the average week is from 57 to 58 hours for men and 55 for women. Instructions have been issued to Commanding Officers that hours of work are not to exceed 60 per week without reference to the Air Ministry.
