§ Mr. Viantasked the Secretary of State for War whether a commanding officer has the right to overrule the opinion of a medical officer in regard to leave to areas in which smallpox has been reported, when the medical officer considers it safe for the soldier to travel to the particular area?
§ Sir J. GriggInstructions have recently been issued by the War Office restricting the granting of leave to certain areas in which smallpox has been reported. A commanding officer would quite rightly follow these instructions and prevent a soldier from travelling to those areas even if his medical officer considered it safe for the soldier to travel there.
