Smallpox Cases, Edinburgh

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many cases of smallpox have been notified at Edinburgh; how many of them came from an institution; what are the ages and what is the sex of the patients; how many have proved fatal; and what was the vaccinal condition of the victims?

Twenty-four confirmed cases of smallpox are associated with the Edinburgh outbreak and one other case is in hospital under observation. Nineteen cases were, or had recently been, patients in a medical institution or an associated convalescent home, three were medical students attending at the institution and two were contacts of the original cases. In the remaining case, no connection with the institution has so far been traced. Four cases have died. A table giving the sex, age and vaccinal condition so far as known is appended.
