HC Deb 24 November 1942 vol 385 cc681-2W
Mr. J. Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for War why non-commissioned officers officially designated as issuers are not given tradesman's pay?

Sir J. Grigg

Issuer is not an Army trade. The duties of issuers, taken as a whole, are not such as to justify their being classed as skilled tradesmen. A new trade of Storeman (Supplies), R.A.S.C., has however recently been introduced. The more skilled work hitherto performed by the issuers, together with various clerical and other duties, is being transferred to soldiers of this trade. Issuers who can pass the tests are eligible for mustering in it.
