HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c539W
Sir J. Nall

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the possibilities of training substantial numbers of war-disabled persons with severe leg injuries as General Post Office operators on large internal telephone exchanges rented to Government Departments, local authorities, institutions, public companies, and large firms, with a view to reserving this appropriate occupation for such persons?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I hope that it will be possible to recruit a number of suitably qualified disabled men into the Post Office telephone service, including branch exchanges rented to Government Departments. The engagement of staff for other branch exchanges is a matter for the subscribers concerned, but the Post Office would be glad to co-operate in training disabled men for such work.
