HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 cc520-1W
Sir W. Davison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction caused by the inequalities in the salaries paid to British officials in the United States of America; and whether a full list of such salaries and allowances will be published forthwith?

Sir K. Wood

I am not aware of any such dissatisfaction as my hon. Friend suggests. The salaries referred to are governed by the same considerations as apply in the Government Service generally. As regards the second part of the Question, the number of officials on such service is considerable, and I do not think the value of a published list would be such as to justify the expenditure of time which would be involved.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will publish a list of British officials at present posted for duties in America who are in receipt of salaries in excess of £2,000 per annum; and upon what duties they are engaged?

Captain Crookshank

The information for which my hon. and gallant Friend asks is given in the following table, which relates to officials (other than serving officers) posted from this country for duties in the United States of America. The table, as requested, relates to salaries alone and not to those cases where total emoluments, when account is taken also of allowances, exceed £2,000.

Name of Official and Duties.

Sir Frederick Phillips, G.C.M.G., C.B.—Treasury Representative in U.S.A.

E. A. Seal, Esq., C.B.—Head of Secretariat of British Admiralty Delegation.
