HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c523W
Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Minister of Agriculture what action he is taking to establish grain drying and storage plants in suitable areas in order to ensure that the large crops of damp grain are dried and so made available for human consumption and protected against vermin; and whether and with what result, his officials have been in contact with the East Sussex War Agricultural Committee?

Mr. Hudson

As far as possible grain should be dried in the stack, but this is not practicable when combine harvesters are used or where threshing takes place early in the season. My Department is arranging for the manufacture of a number of farm driers before next harvest and these will be allocated where the need is greatest. As regards the last part of the Question, I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the replies given to him yesterday.
