HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 c368W
Mr. J. J. Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Air why Mr. A. Ferguson, 26, Oakbank Terrace, Maryhill, Glasgow, who volunteered for service in the Royal Observer Corps, Glasgow, was interviewed, told to report for training on 2nd November, then received a notification cancelling all the arrangements?

Sir A. Sinclair

Volunteers for service in the Royal Observer Corps are required to undergo a short course of training before enrolment. When Mr. Ferguson applied to serve as a part-time observer in the corps, there was no vacancy but it seemed likely that, as a result of a reorganisation then contemplated, additional male observers would be required to man the local centres. Mr. Ferguson was accordingly invited with other applicants to attend for training. The plans for this reorganisation did not, however, develop on the lines expected and the arrangements for training Mr. Ferguson were accordingly cancelled.
