HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 c374W
Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Planning whether he is aware that the Caerphilly Urban District Council has passed a resolution against taking railings of houses whilst large quantities of scrap remain uncollected from colliery undertakings; and whether he is following this policy?

Mr. Hicks

I am aware that there is considerable feeling against the taking of railings in South Wales before other metal has been recovered for scrap. My Department is taking active steps to accelerate the recovery of scrap metal from collieries and from other sources but I cannot agree to suspend the recovery of railings from houses until all other sources have been exhausted.
