HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 cc369-70W
Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether the Air Council have now amended the regulations whereby officers are required to relinquish acting and temporary rank under certain circumstances; and whether he can make any statement on this subject?

Sir A. Sinclair

Temporary rank in the R.A.F. is granted on the recommendation of Central Promotion boards to fill vacancies in the war establishment and once gained is not relinquished during the war so long as the holder of it continues to hold a commission. No major change is contemplated in the regulations regarding the relinquishment of acting rank which is held pending the posting of an officer of the appropriate temporary or substantive rank.
