§ Mr. Haslamasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Planning the terms on which he is prepared to requisition stocks of furniture which have been stored as the result of the closing-down of hotels, restaurants, boarding-houses, halls and other premises of the kind; and on what terms owners of such furniture may repurchase after the war?
§ Mr. HicksStocks of furniture taken over will be acquired on the basis of the Compensation (Defence) Act, 1939. No undertaking can be given that the actual furniture requisitioned will be handed back, as it will be dispersed. Owners will, however, be allowed to purchase similar types from surplus stocks which will be accumulated at depots in various areas, before the articles are placed on sale to the public generally. The furniture will be sold to them at the prices paid by the Ministry less an allowance for depreciation.
