HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 c210W
Major Lyons

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that, as a result of the Order made by his Department, quantities of rubber gloves are now rotting on the shelves of draper and other storekeepers throughout the country; and what steps he proposes to take to deal with this situation?

Mr. Dalton

The acute shortage of rubber made it necessary last May to prohibit the sale of rubber gloves except against certificates, in order to safeguard supplies for essential uses. I have now arranged with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply that he will take over stocks of certain types of these gloves from traders who cannot otherwise dispose of them.
