HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 cc225-6W
Mr. Isaacs

asked the Secretary of State for War what provision exists for compensating soldiers having to be removed on account of illness or accident from their place of location, either in barracks, in camp or on board ship, for the loss of their personal belongings consequent upon such removal?

Sir J. Grigg

A soldier is fully equipped and clothed at the expense of the State on scales laid down in the clothing regulations and should articles of clothing and equipment be lost through no fault of the soldier they are replaced free. Any additional belongings a soldier may have in his possession are kept at his own risk and as a general rule no compensation is given in the event of their loss.
