HC Deb 17 November 1942 vol 385 c205W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what arrangements were made to ensure that a verbatim text of the speeches made by the Prime Minister and General Smuts were available to any miner who wished to study them; and why these speeches were not published at an early stage subject to the deletion of any confidential details?

Major Lloyd George

It is not intended to provide a verbatim text of the speeches. The conference was convened in private to afford the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Smuts an opportunity of giving a more intimate review of the war situation to representatives of the coal mining industry than would be possible in ordinary circumstances. These representatives have since reported back to their districts.
