HC Deb 10 November 1942 vol 383 c2278W
Mr. Etherton

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the unpleasant taste of the water supplied during recent weeks in the London area; whether this is due to excessive chlorination; and how long is it likely to continue?

Mr. E. Brown

I am informed by the Metropolitan Water Board that the taste which has given rise to a small number of complaints in parts of the London area is due either to algal growths or to the fact that, owing to war-time conditions, chlorine is sometimes added in rather more than normal strength. Both are local and temporary phenomena, and neither involves any risk to health.
