HC Deb 10 November 1942 vol 383 c2308W
Captain Strickland

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether his attention has been drawn to the proposal of the Bradford Corporation Transport Department, to replace trams by omnibuses on the Stanningley and Wibsey routes owing to the difficulty of securing necessary track-repair materials; and whether he will take-steps to supply such materials and thus effect economy in the use of rubber and imported fuel whilst helping to maintain existing motor transport services in places where tramcars do not operate?

Mr. Noel-Baker

The outer half of the Stanningley route is in such a bad state of repair that it would have required large amounts of labour and materials to reconstruct it. For this reason, the Bradford Corporation decided to abandon it, and I am satisfied that their decision was right. The corporation inform me that they are not proposing to abandon the Wibsey tram route.
