§ Mr. Hewlettasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether, in view of the desire of his Department to restrict, as far as possible, travelling by road vehicles, with a view to saving petrol, etc., he will investigate the charges of the electric railway system between Altrincham and Manchester under which the third-class single fare has now been advanced to 1s. 2d. and the third-class return fare to 1s. 8d., whereas the Manchester Corporation omnibuses run between Altrincham and Manchester for 7d.; and whether he will make a substantial reduction in railway charges?
