HC Deb 10 November 1942 vol 383 cc2323-4W
Captain Ramsay

asked the Home Secretary whether the senior medical officers of His Majesty's prisons are empowered to order forcible feeding as a means of punishment in cases where a prisoner has expressed his willingness to take the nourishment in question; and whether his attention has been drawn to the action of the senior medical officer of His Majesty's Prison, Brixton, in issuing such orders during the week ending 2nd November?

Mr. H. Morrison

In no circumstances are medical officers of His Majesty's prisons empowered to order artificial feeding as a punishment. No such orders have been issued by the senior medical officer of Brixton Prison.
