HC Deb 20 May 1942 vol 380 c245W
Mr. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Health whether it is now the policy of the Government to allow nurseries only for children up to the age of five years; whether nurseries may still be established for children between two and five years of age, open for hours suitable to the locality; and why regional officials have refused to sanction a nursery of the latter kind against the wishes of a local committee?

Mr. E. Brown

The policy of the Government is to provide nurseries to meet the present and prospective needs of the district concerned; the scope of the provision to be made at a particular nursery is a matter for consideration in the light of local circumstances. I will look into the case mentioned in the last part of the Question if my hon. Friend will let me have the particulars.
