HC Deb 26 March 1942 vol 378 c2171W
Mr. Viant

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether he has considered a letter from the town clerk of the borough of Willesden recording the protest of the members of that council at the manner in which the iron gates, bollards and railings are being removed, the disregard of the damage caused to dwarf walls and tiled paths, and the makeshift character of the repairs effected where owners have asked for them; and will he take steps to ensure that this wilful damage ceases and all necessary repairs are carried out in a satisfactory manner?

Mr. Hicks

Yes, Sir. The damage referred to has been due in part to the difficulty experienced by the contractor in obtaining suitable labour, but to some extent damage is unavoidable owing to the nature of the structures. The damage will be repaired as soon as possible within the limitations imposed by the shortage of labour and materials.
