HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 cc2003-4W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of local fuel overseers; the cost of their salaries or honoraria; and the cost for rent, staff, etc., per annum.

Mr. Grenfell

There are at present approximately 1,650 local fuel overseers, of whom some act in an entirely voluntary capacity without salary or honorarium. Claims from local authorities for the repayment of expenses incurred in the administration of the Fuel and Lighting Orders are made quarterly in arrear and there is generally a considerable delay in the presentation of the claims. Repayment to local authorities during the financial year ended 31st March, 1941, was as follows:—

£
Salaries or honoraria of local fuel overseers 61,704
Rent, staff, etc. 182,796
244,500
