HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 c2010W
Mr. A. Edwards

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider abolishing the use of National Health Insurance and Unemployment stamps in order to economise in labour and paper?

Sir K. Wood

The purpose of the insurance stamp, like that of the postage stamp, is to provide the necessary proof that the payment due has actually been made. I am advised that there is no more economical method by which this could be done.
