HC Deb 24 March 1942 vol 378 cc1834-5W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many motor-cars are provided at public expense for the use of His Majesty's Ministers; how many men and women, respectively, are engaged full-time for the purpose of driving them; and what were the corresponding figures before the war?

Captain Crookshank

Eighteen Ministers have, as an exceptional war-time arrangement, been provided with cars for use on official journeys. Twenty male drivers are at present employed, but their position under the Registration for Employment Order is being examined, and replace- ment by women drivers will be made in appropriate cases. One Minister had the use of an official car before the war.
