HC Deb 19 March 1942 vol 378 c1679W
Sir C. Edwards

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has any means of ascertaining the position of the men and women left in Singapore; if so, will he state the position of Mr. Lewis Ivor Lewis, an official in the Colonial Office there, and where people can write for information about relatives or friends?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

I much regret that at the present time there is no channel of communication with Singapore, but every effort is being made to obtain information through the Protecting Power and through the International Red Cross Committee. As already announced in the Press, inquiries about British civilian and local volunteer forces personnel should be addressed to the Inquiry and Casualty Department of the Colonial Office. I regret that there is no information available at present regarding Mr. L. I. Lewis. Any information received will be notified to the next-of-kin at once.
