HC Deb 18 March 1942 vol 378 c1528W
Mr. Cary

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the chief French possession in India, Pondicherry, has been brought under the complete control of the Indian Government, including all external communications; and have the port facilities of the province been given over to any supplementary needs of Indian defence?

Mr. Amery

No, Sir. Pondicherry, with the rest of French India, has declared for Free France and is therefore Allied territory. The closest collaboration exists between the Governments of British and French India in all matters of common concern.
