HC Deb 11 March 1942 vol 378 cc1071-2W
Mr. Purbrick

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the amount of overtime paid in his Department during the last month for which the figures are available; is he satisfied that each person drawing overtime has actually worked fully in all his ordinary time, and in what manner this is checked?

Mr. Law

The amount of overtime paid in the Foreign Office during the month of February was £4,147. Overtime is authorised by the head of the Department concerned, and it is checked by a scrutiny of the time sheets. I am satisfied that those of the staff who are eligible to draw overtime pay are fully employed during their ordinary time; they all work under the supervision of responsible higher officials.
