HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 c810W
Lieutenant Butcher

asked the President of the Board of Education what steps exist to ensure that children attending school are provided by their parents, or otherwise, with satisfactory warm clothing and boots or shoes to withstand wet and cold weather?

Mr. Butler

When parents are unable, owing to lack of means, to provide adequate clothing and footwear for their children attending schools, application may be made to the Assistance Board or to the Public Assistance Committee. In the case of evacuated children arrangements, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, may be made by local education authorities to supply necessitous children with clothing and footwear from voluntary and other funds.
