HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 cc659-60W
Mr. Gallacher

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies how many of the Grand Mufti's followers, who were with him in Iran and Iraq, have already returned to Palestine; whether it has been decided to grant permission to return to a further 10, including Jamel el Husseini, the Grand Mufti's nephew; and whether negotiations have been begun for yet another group to return to Palestine?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Seven of the Palestinian refugees, together with the women and children, who were handed over by the Persian authorities, were permitted to return to Palestine. None of these men has been the subject of criminal charges. Six refugees, including Jamal Husseini, were sent to Southern Rhodesia for internment. No permission has been given to any of these to return to Palestine. Nor, so far as I am aware, are negotiations proceeding for the return of any other group of refugees to Palestine.
