HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 c660W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that an applicant for a teaching post in Jamaica was recently refused the position which the headmaster stated he intended to offer him upon the grounds that he had made literary contributions, strictly non-political, to the newspaper, "Public Opinion"; and whether, as leaders of opinion in Jamaica had approached the Governor who has declined to intervene, he will examine the relative papers supplied to him with a view to preventing future victimisation?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

My Noble Friend's attention has been drawn to the matter, and the Governor of Jamaica has been asked for a report.
