asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will consider entering into negotiations, through the appropriate channel, with the German and Italian Governments with a view to an exchange of prisoners on a head for head basis?

Mr. Law

No, Sir. For military and other reasons His Majesty's Government are not prepared to consider this suggestion.

Mr. Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether prisoners of war and people living in Singapore have yet been allowed to communicate with their friends and relatives?

Mr. Law

No. Sir, But I am informed that the Japanese authorities are establishing a mail service for the use of prisoners of war and civilian internees. It cannot yet be stated when this service will be operating.
