§ Sir K. WoodSur-tax for the year 1941–42 is not payable until 1st January, 1943, and the figures are not yet available. For the year 1940–41 for which the Sur-tax was payable on 1st January, 1942, the number of assessments was approximately 100,000 and the total income chargeable was of the order of £500,000,000.
