HC Deb 09 June 1942 vol 380 c934W
Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what steps are being taken, in view of the lateness of the potato crops, to ensure adequate supplies of last year's product to the fish-friers throughout 1942?

Major Lloyd George

The new potato crop is making satisfactory growth. A reserve of more than 300,000 tons of long-keeping potatoes has been bought by the Ministry for release through normal trade channels in the interim period when supplies of new potatoes are insufficient to meet all demands. Provided weather conditions are suitable for storing, it is anticipated that adequate supplies will be available from this reserve for all users, including fish-friers.
