HC Deb 04 June 1942 vol 380 cc835-6W
Miss Cazalet

asked the President of the Board of Education whether the recent order permitting children between the ages of 12 and 14 years to work on the land during school holidays applies to private as well as public elementary schools?

Mr. Butler

The order applies to all children who, apart from the exemptions permitted by the order, would be under an obligation to attend school. Children between the ages of 12 and 14, whatever type of school they are attending, who work on the land in school hours, must obtain exemption from the local education authority on the form prescribed by the Board and in accordance with the statutory conditions.
