HC Deb 04 June 1942 vol 380 c833W
Mr. A., Edwards

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that many working weeks are lost each year through sickness due entirely to lack of cleanliness in factories; and what steps he intends to take to deal with this?

Mr. Bevin

The statement which I have seen reported is that many working weeks are lost owing to sickness and that some of this sickness is due to dust and dirt at the factories. The Factory Acts lay down carefully considered requirements for the cleanliness of the factory. Apart from normal inspections I shall be glad to make special inquiry into any case of alleged non-compliance with these requirements which is brought to my notice.
