HC Deb 30 July 1942 vol 382 c724W
Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Health whether the advertisements urging parents to have their children immunised against diphtheria, now appearing in the Press and at the cinemas, the Press articles in support of that practice and of vaccination, are being paid for, either directly or indirectly, by his Department; and what sum is likely to be spent in the current financial year in support of propaganda of this description?

Mr. E. Brown

The campaign for the immunisation of children against diphtheria has been organised in conjunction with the Ministry of Information. The Press advertisements are being paid for. The trailer film which recently began to be shown in cinemas was produced at the expense of the Ministry of Information but is being shown free of charge. The editorial matter which is appearing in support of the campaign is not being paid for, and I am glad to have this opportunity of thanking the newspapers and periodicals, as well as the B.B.C. for the generous help they are giving the Government in its efforts to stamp out this deadly disease. The total cost of the present campaign, all of which will fall in the current financial year, is estimated at £15,000.
