HC Deb 28 July 1942 vol 382 cc344-5W
Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what allocation of solid fuel is made to Thames pleasure steamers; and if it is proposed to continue to allow this form of recreation which uses large quantities of coal and coke?

Major Lloyd George

The supplies of coal contracted for by Thames pleasure steamers are about 70 tons per week over the summer months. In view of the small tonnage involved, I do not propose to interfere with something which gives recreation to large numbers of people. If the hon. and gallant Member has any information which suggests that substantial quantities of coal are being wasted by these craft, I would be obliged if he would communicate with me.
