HC Deb 23 July 1942 vol 382 c196W
Mr. Lipson

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, to remove misapprehension, especially so far as secondary schools are concerned as to the reasons for which schools are to be kept "open during the holidays, he will broadcast a statement for the benefit of parents and pupils, teachers and local education authorities, indicating what purposes can be served by keeping the schools open, and what kinds of programmes he has in mind for the children who attend?

Mr. Butler

The purposes to be served by keeping schools open and the kind of programme contemplated are described in the Board's Circular 1596, a copy of which I am sending to the hon. Member. Arrangements have been and are being made by local education and school authorities to inform teachers, pupils and parents on these matters. I am most grateful to the teachers, who have made a generous response to this circular.
