asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the French warships at Alexandria came under British control previous to the Vichy-German armistice; what orders Admiral Godefroy has recently had from Premier Laval; and how such a communication has reached him?

An agreement was made between Admiral Godefroy and the Commander - in - Chief, Mediterranean, shortly after the Vichy-German Armistice, which, as my hon. Friend will recall, became effective on 25th June, 1940. This agreement provided for the immobilisation of the Vichy ships in Alexandria.
