§ Mr. Parkerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he is going to make it obligatory upon banks to produce uniform small-size cheques and so economise in paper?
§ Sir K. WoodI am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the reply which I gave on 9th December, 1941, to my hon. Friend the Member for East Willesden (Mr. Hammersley), in which I gave details of the arrangements already made to limit the size of cheques. These arrangements have been put into operation by agreement with the banks, and I do not consider that any compulsion is necessary.
1096Wduct of its business will be facilitated by this arrangement. A committee, for instance, concerned with military and civil problems may well find it useful to have both a military and civil secretary. I have not the information asked for in the second part of the Question and could not obtain it without an unjustifiable expenditure of time and trouble.
