HC Deb 14 July 1942 vol 381 c1092W
Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Minister of Health the number of housing schemes submitted to his Department by local authorities in the administrative county of Durham since 1930;the number of houses asked for; and the number of houses scheduled for demolition in the same area during the same period?

Mr. E. Brown

35,677 houses have been approved in the county of Durham for erection by or on behalf of local authorities since 1st January, 1933. I regret that the particulars readily available do not enable me to give figures for the earlier years or the number of individual schemes submitted. The total number of houses in clearance and compulsory purchase orders confirmed by my predecessors since 1930 or included in clearance areas purchased by agreement is 23,858. In addition 3,925 individual unfit houses have been demolished as a result of action taken under Section 11 of the Housing Act, 1936.
